Babylon’s Lions

There have been a couple of people who have mentioned Babylon lately, including Charles Halton and Peter Kirk. I thought I’d put up some of my pictures from the U of Chicago’s Oriental Institute Museum and join the crowd.

The Oriental Institute is probably one of the coolest (and freest) museums to visit in Chicago, assuming you’re a big ANE nerd. I have some pictures of displays other than from Babylon too, but I’ll save those for another time. One great thing is that you’re allowed to take as many pictures as you like as long as you don’t use a flash. But the rooms are dark, so bring a tripod and adjust your ISO.

Just to give you an idea of how huge this one is…the ropes are just above the waist in height.

Oh wait, that last one isn’t from the museum, that’s at the corner of Western and Division…
