If you’re reading a book about Hellenistic Greek that seeks to implement linguistic theory, go to the section on linguistic methodology.

If the author merely makes a simplistic distinction between Generative frameworks and Functional frameworks (or perhaps Chomskyan vs. compared to Firthian/Hallidayan), I would suggest being suspicious.
