MA Degree in Biblical Languages and Linguistics

Dallas International University (DIU) has announced their new masters degree program that combines the biblical languages and linguistics in one place: MA in Biblical Languages and Linguistics.

The program requirements look excellent and cover the essentials of linguistics for doing solid grammatical research on Greek & Hebrew and has both thesis and capstone project options for completion. There’s a pdf with more information about program requirements and class descriptions available here: MA-BLL Program Details.

The next time someone from the biblical studies community asks me about how to get into studying linguistics, this is where I’ll point them.

Course Modalities

All DIU courses can be taken either in-person or synchronously through zoom. Our physical classrooms are equipped with technology to allow our virtual students to participate as fully as possible in the courses while remaining virtual. Synchronous students are required to attend class at the scheduled time; no asynchronous options are available. To see our current semesters course schedules please check our website.

By offering our courses with dual modalities, students who are unable to physically move to Dallas, TX are still able to join our academic community and earn their degrees from the same faculty and meet the same requirements as our in-person students. For students who can consider joining us on campus, we strongly encourage them to do so. Our small school has on campus housing options, and the experience of living in community with other like-minded, language and linguistics students brings many benefits and joys that cannot be fully duplicated in the virtual environment. And it allows for more casual interactions between students and faculty and staff.
