Starting today and from now on, every other Friday, we want to highlight a lesson from Alpha with Angela. Angela is developing free resources for communicative Ancient Greek language learning, much in the same vein as Bethany and Andrew Case’s work on Aleph with Beth for Hebrew.

Thus far she’s produced 26 lessons for Greek and it has been exciting to see how her work has grown at her YouTube channel, Alpha with Angela. You can of course watch ahead or you can enjoy the lessons as we share them. Even better, do both and maximized your comprehensible input!

Angela serves Bible translation in the SIL Translation Resources Department with Rachel and I. She shares our focus on biblical language access for the majority world. Where we are working on primarily on grammar for translation, Angela’s work focuses on acquisition. She completely removes the barriers of English, Spanish, French, or any majority language entirely through accessible monolingual Greek lessons. Anyone can follow them regardless of what language they’re speak. And they are completely free. We are excited to see how Angela’s work changes the equation when it comes to global access to Greek education, especially as we look toward a world where more and more responsibility and ownership are taken on by local communities around the world for Bible education. From our perspective, here at Koine-Greek.com, we have an obligation to help empower that shift and make sure that the resources and tools are available to support low resource language communities engage with their churches in the Scriptures so that they might have true and full ownership of the work of Bible translation and interpretation. Each lesson builds on the first, so its best to watch them in order and then later review the previous ones. Angel provides so excellent advice on how to get started, either on your own or in the classroom on her webpage: How It Works. We want biblical language learning accessible to everyone and her efforts, along with Aleph with Beth, represents an important step.
