On Saturday, October 14th, We (Rachel & Michael Aubrey) presented our paper about the needs of Biblical language grammars specifically for Bible translation. This will be new for us, but we’re taking a first crack at putting some video content on YouTube. We have already recorded our paper and we will be releasing our presentation on YouTube at the same time as our live presentation. We’re starting with our Bible Translation Conference 2023 presentation.

I want to emphasize that our focus is not on whether or not any grammar is good or bad, but merely that the needs of biblical language education designed for English speakers fills a vastly different role than the biblical language education needs for the Global South. I say this because I know there are many hardworking biblical language teachers doing a great job teaching Greek and Hebrew in their English-speaking contexts. We certainly do not want anyone conclude that we are talking about how you teach Greek is necessarily or inherently wrong or bad. Our emphasis is that teaching Greek and Hebrew in English and for English speakers causes problems when the majority of existing resources give priority of design and attention to that English audience. We need new grammars that serve and communicate effectively to other language communities.
