We are excited to see that our forthcoming book, Greek Prepositions in the New Testament: A Semantic Description, is officially listed:
We are in the midst of the laborious process of reviewing galleys right now, but hope to see proofs in the coming months. Originally, the hope had been that the book would be available this fall in time for conferences, but we took some extra time this past January to add visual figures and image schemas for each preposition article with the hope of improving its usefulness for students. We anticipate a publication date of February, 2027.
This is the second edition, expanded from our digital-only edition produced for Logos Bible Software: Greek Prepositions in the New Testament: A Cognitive-Functional Description. The new edition is roughly 30,000 words longer, provides a full introduction, with every entry checked against preposition usage in the New Testament and several rewritten from scratch. We’ve added dozens more examples, improved and expanded our discussions of each example, and expanded our glossary & bibliography. We hope that resulting work will be more useful in every way.
Publisher’s Description:
The meanings of prepositions can be challenging to describe and understand, especially when one preposition is used in a variety of ways. A woman might hold an umbrella over her head while puzzling over a chess problem. She might also be over100 years old. These kinds of variations in usage also occur in Greek. Grammatical differences among the world’s languages and translation from one language to another only exacerbate such difficulties.
Greek Prepositions in the New Testament takes a cognitive-functional approach, guiding readers through the diverse meanings and usage of prepositions found in biblical Greek. Each article illustrates a preposition’s basic usage before detailing how these patterns are extended and adapted to take on more complex or abstract senses–with examples provided along the way.
This book is an indispensable and user-friendly guide for students and scholars. It was previously available electronically, but due to demand, it is now in print for the first time. The second edition includes a new introduction and additional material.
